Chemical Peels

What are chemical peels?

Naturally our skin is able to replace old cells with new ones.  As we age this exfoliating process begins to slow down. Chemical peels are exfoliating agents, which are applied to the skin of the face to remove the upper layer of the skin and stimulate rejuvenation of new skin cells.  So peels are used to:

  • Reduce fine wrinkling

  • Treat areas of dryness

  • Reduce uneven pigmentation

  • Aid in the control of acne

  • Smooth rough, dry skin

  • Improve the texture of sun-damaged skin

Levels of Chemical Peels:

Light and medium peels: These are used to reduce superficial wrinkles and discolouration.

Deep chemical peels: These are used for more severe conditions such as severe acne.

After light peels, patients can return to their normal activities immediately and wear cosmetics to conceal the redness. Medium and deep peels may result in swelling and blisters, which can take up to 2 weeks to heal.

Chemical peels may be repeated as necessary to achieve and maintain desired results.

Skin preparation prior to peels:

With all peels, the result will be best if the skin is primed (prepared) before the peel.  All will be discussed with the patient during the consultation prior to the peel.

Post Peel Care:

Following any chemical peels, the new skin will be sensitive, maximum sun protection should be used.
